Organization of the FCPC

MANDATE

The Federation of Canada’s Professional Chemists /Fédération des chimistes professionnels du Canada (FCPC) is a federation of professional chemist organizations. Its role is to:

  • Promote consistency in the regulation of professional chemists in Canada for the protection of the public.
  • Coordinate and communicate on those issues that affect the regulation of professional chemists in Canada.
  • Enable the transferability of professional chemists between jurisdictions through compliance with federal and provincial labour mobility agreements.
  • Develop and maintain standards of accountability and competency for professional chemists in Canada.
  • Provide advice to the CSC Accreditation Committee on the nature and content of education programs required for professional chemists.

 

STRUCTURE

The FCPC exists as an unincorporated body. It may adopt any corporate structure its members deem appropriate in the future.

MEETINGS

  • The FCPC shall meet at least four times each calendar year.
  • There will be an Annual General Meeting at which the incoming Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer and budget for the upcoming year are confirmed.
  • The Chair or representative of a provincial professional chemist organization may request additional meetings of the Council to deal with new or ongoing business.
  • The Annual General Meeting is normally a face-to-face meeting. Teleconference or other electronic means may be used for the AGM or any meetings of the Council as required.
  • Quorum for any meeting shall be a majority of the representatives of the provincial professional chemist organizations.
  • Decisions of the Council shall be reached by consensus of all the representatives. Any financial or policy decisions require unanimous consent of the provincial professional chemist organizations.
  • FCPC voting representatives may have to consult with their provincial organization to bind their organization on issues discussed and decisions reached at meetings. The responsibility lies with representatives to convey decisions that their provincial professional chemist organizations make back to the Council.

 

FUNDING

  • The Federation shall be funded by the provincial professional chemist organizations according to a formula developed and approved from time to time by the FCPC provincial organizations. 
  • The FCPC Council Treasurer shall forward invoices to the provincial professional chemist organizations for payment at appropriate times each year.
  • Through the Council, the FCPC may seek funds from outside sources when unanimously agreed to by the provincial professional chemist organizations.
